`(1, 1), y = x + 1` Find the distance between the point and the line.

Given (1, 1) `y=x+1`

`y=x+1`

`-x+y-1=0`

Let A=-1, B=1, C=-1, x1=1, y1=1

Find the distance between the point and the line using the formula

`d=|Ax_1+By_1+C|/sqrt(A^2+B^2)`

`d=|(-1)(1)+(1)(1)+(-1)|/sqrt((-1)^2+1^2)`

`d=|-1+1-1|/sqrt(2)=1/sqrt(2)=.707`

The distance between the point and the line is .707 units.
