Where did William Shakespeare die?

Despite spending much of his time in London, playwright and poet William Shakespeare died in his hometown, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England, on April 23, 1616. Stratford, as the town is commonly called, is located about 90 miles northwest of London and is best known as Shakespeare's birthplace.

Historians are unsure about the exact cause of Shakespeare's death. Just a month before his death, he wrote his will, in which he remarked that he was in "perfect health," and there are no primary sources which state the cause of his death. About fifty years later, the Vicar (a local clergyman) of Stratford, John Ward, wrote that Shakespeare had contracted and died from a fever after drinking too much alcohol with a group of fellow poets, including Ben Johnson. However, this anecdote cannot be verified. Shakespeare's memorial bust can be found at Holy Trinity Church in Stratford.
