What gas giant has the most moons?

The term gas giant is a reference to some of the planets of our solar system. Specifically, the Jovian planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Each of these planets have natural satellites, also known as moons. The following is a list of the number of moons of each gas giant:

  • Jupiter: 67 moons (50 confirmed and 17 awaiting confirmation)

  • Saturn: 62 moons (53 confirmed and 9 awaiting confirmation)

  • Uranus: 27 moons (all confirmed)

  • Neptune: 14 moons (13 confirmed and 1 awaiting confirmation)

Thus, among the gas giants, or Jovian planets, Jupiter has the largest number of moons. In fact, Jupiter has the highest number of moons in our entire solar system.

The most famous moons of Jupiter include, Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto. These 4 moons are also known as Galilean moons, in honor of Galileo.

Hope this helps.
