How did Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan meet in the Great Gatsby?

In Chapter Six Nick Carraway is told by Jordan Baker that Gatsby met Daisy in 1917 when he was stationed at Camp Taylor, Kentucky.  While stationed there, he met Daisy in Louisville when he joined other "excited officers" who sought the privilege of "monopolizing her."

Jay Gatsby was amazed by her house and wealth, and, as he later tells Nick, he "took Daisy one still October night," but it was under false pretenses because he led her to believe that he, too, was from a wealthy family. Still, Gatsby explains to Nick, "he felt married to her, that was all." Soon afterwards, he was called to go overseas and Daisy sat in his arms for a long time the day before he left. However, when he does not return after having fought in the Argonne battles because he was sent instead to Oxford, Daisy returned to her "artificial world" and began again to have dozens of dates. She "wanted her life shaped... immediately and the "force" took shape in the form of Tom Buchanan.
