The industrial revolution marked an era of inventions and mechanizations in multiple areas of the economy. The Industrial Revolution began in Britain. Iron ore and coal were readily available to the British. This helped in the development of mechanization for equipment.
Development of metal tools also provided better tools for agriculture. Better tools were created, as well as new methods of farming. This meant there was a greater food supply for a growing work force. Improvement in agriculture also facilitated the shift from an agrarian society focused on farming, to an industrial society focused on manufacturing.
Textiles were a large part of the Industrial Revolution. James Hargreaves invented the jenny which was able to spin many types of threads all at once. Arkwright was further able to develop a machine that would spin cotton. Women began working as well, often long hours.
