The role of bones in the body is (C) to provide support and protection. For example, the skull protects the delicate structure of the brain. The spinal column provides support for the back.
The muscular system (A) provides movement. Note that while muscles produce the force which creates movement, the muscles of movement are anchored to the skeletal system and use the support structure provided by the bones and joints to accomplish the movement of the body.
The circulatory system (B) transports nutrients and gases through the body. Gases are absorbed into the blood in the lungs and nutrients are absorbed in the digestive system.
The digestive system (D) breaks down and absorbs nutrients. Food is broken down by the digestive juices and mechanical action of the stomach and then passed into the intestines. The majority of absorption of nutrients then takes place in the intestines.
