Gravity is the force that keeps objects in their place. It is the force of attraction between any two bodies. This force is directly proportional to the product of masses of the two bodies and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. It is given by the universal law of gravitation as follows:
F = Gm1m2/r^2
Since bodies are pulling each other, they stay in their place. For example, Earth is pulling us towards it and this pull is the reason we stay on the planet's surface. Similarly, the Sun's gravity keeps Earth in an orbit around the Sun. Thus, gravity keeps the objects in their own place.
Another related force is inertia, which keeps objects in their given state of motion, at rest or in motion.
Hope this helps.
