To answer this question, you need to consider from what viewpoint a person is considering. There are people who support the ideas of the Federalists while other people support the ideas of the Democratic-Republicans.
Working class people would be more likely to support many of the ideas of the Federalists. The Democratic Party is most likely to represent these ideas today. The Democrats, like the Federalists, believe in a strong federal government that would have a lot of power. They want the federal government to provide programs to help the needy. They believe in a looser view of the Constitution. They are willing to support a higher tax rate, especially on the wealthy, to help pay for these programs. They want the federal government to be active.
The wealthy and the business owners would support the ideas of the Democratic-Republican Party. Today, these are ideas are more closely represented by the Republican Party. These people want a more limited role of the federal government. They want few rules and regulations for the businesses and for the economy. They want taxes to be low. They generally don’t support the idea that the wealthy should pay a greater percentage in taxes than those who are poor. When it comes to interpreting the Constitution, they generally support a stricter view of the Constitution.
It is hard to say which vision is better represented. We have a Congress that is controlled by the Republicans and an executive branch that is controlled by the Democrats. Certain regions of our country tend to be more Republican than Democratic. The South tends to vote Republican while the Northeast and the states boarding the Pacific Ocean tend to vote Democratic. There are some states, many which are located in the Midwest, which can vote either way. These states are known as the swing states. Thus, the visions of both the Federalist Party and the Democratic-Republican Party are still alive and functioning today.
