Water makes up the majority of an organism's body. For example, the human body consists of about 65% water. Water carries out a large number of important functions in the biological world. Photosynthesis and cellular respiration are both dependent on water. These processes form oxygen, food, and energy for our existence and growth. Water regulates our body temperature and keeps it in a range conducive to a healthy life. Sweating in warm weather is an example of thermal regulation. Water is a universal solvent and is responsible for transporting materials (such as nutrients) in our body and the bodies of many other organisms. Water also ensures enzymatic activity, which is necessary for various biochemical reactions of importance.
Needless to say, without water we cannot survive.
