The assignment suggests that you have already been assigned reading about challenges in the classroom. Review that reading and make a list of the most common problems that the author(s) discuss. Think about which of these problems is most familiar to you. If this is an issue you read about or saw on TV, try to locate the original source and learn more about the story. If you plan to describe a personal experience, do a little freewriting to help you recall the details. Begin your essay by providing a brief summary of your source or a description of your past experience. Provide enough details so that someone who has not read the article or was not present in the classroom at the time can understand what you are describing. Next discuss the specific classroom challenge that is occurring. What is the source of the problem? What effect does it have in the classroom?
One example might be the challenge teachers face when classes are too large and students do not receive the necessary individual attention. Perhaps you remember a time when a teacher overlooked the difficulties you or someone else was having because s/he was too busy with other students. You might have read an article about the problem of overburdened school districts or teacher shortages, which leads to a poor student-to-teacher ratio. You might also have seen a news story about a student who was injured or disabled due to lack of supervision, which demonstrates why large classes are detrimental.
