How can I craft a topic sentence about eating healthy while at fast food restaurants?

A topic sentence is one that announces the subject of your essay, and introduces your main idea. Normally the topic sentence is part of your introductory paragraph, and this paragraph can also be called a "thesis statement." The thesis statement may be more than one sentence but usually not more than three. It may take the form of a question you want to answer. It can also explain the method of inquiry you will use to answer that question.

There are many rules and tips for essay writing, and some instructors will use some rules and not others. But most agree that some kind of topic sentence is useful. In your case, the topic is eating healthy at fast food restaurants, but how can you create an effective topic sentence? Part of your approach can depend on your perspective or the point you want to prove. Is finding healthy choices at a fast food restaurant easy, or difficult? That may depend upon the restaurant you choose. So, one way to look at this is creating a topic sentence and introductory paragraph that states a problem and seeks to find solutions.

Then you can decide how you want to approach giving examples. You could look at menus from specific restaurants and choose the healthy options to describe; or you could mention generally healthy choices and suggest that readers choose from those types of food options (such as salads, fruit cups, oatmeal, yogurt or whole grain products). Good luck with your essay!
